I’m debating what my plans are for Field Day this year. Our local club runs a good operation, building up a 7 station layout. It’s always interesting to go out to the park and check things out. And of course there is the food (yum) and fellowship.
However, right now I’m thinking about setting up something here at home. Not down in the shack, but outside. I have our RV that I can used as a shelter, and a few antenna options. There’s the Wolf River Coil vertical and/or dipole setup, the Hamstick option (vertical on the car roof or a dipole), and an older MFJ vertical.
Since I’m interested in doing some portable operations like POTA activations, I think this homebound Field Day setup will give me an opportunity to test out a bunch of options and get an idea of what works and what doesn’t.
Of course I could always take a break and run out to the club’s site for a quick hello and an hot dog.
I’ll let you know what I do and how things turn out.
