About

Hello. My name is Bill, and my amateur radio call is NF9D. I first became interested in Amateur Radio in the late 1950s, but never managed to obtain a license until I retired in 2001. I had no idea what I was missing. I’m now an Extra Class ham, interested in QRP (CW), digital modes, contesting and DX.

My rigs are a Kenwood TS-590S, FT-857D, and a FT-817 for QRP. Antennas are an 80 meter loop and a Gap Challenger vertical. I also have several VHF/UHF radios as well as a ZUMSPOT hotspot for digital mode operations using the internet.

I am currently active with Kane County (Illinois) ARES as an assistant EC and OES for digital modes.  I maintain a WinLink Gateway station on 80 meters (Winmore & ARDOP). I’m a member of ARRL, 10-10 International, NAQCC, ACI-QRP, and my local club, the Fox River Radio League.

I QSL via the Bureau and LOTW. Please ask if you need a direct QSL. I do occasionally upload to E-QSL, but seldom check my mailboxes there.
